As a working mom, summer has it’s challenges.  We do our best to keep our kids busy, give them down time, keep them from doing the summer slide with academics, but most importantly, have fun with them when we aren’t stuck at a desk for a 12 hour shift.

Last week my husband gave me permission to splurge. you see, my girls are HUGE Broadway Musical fans.  There isn’t a time in my home that isn’t filled with singing, soundtracks or lines being quoted.  Two of my girls participate in a few theater programs both during the school year and summer.  I can easily say that they eat breath and dream musical productions.  So, when I found out that their absolute FAVORITE broadway musical, Newsies, was coming to a town 3 hours away…I just couldn’t say no.

My original plan was to tell them once we arrived, but I am horrible about keeping secrets that I am SO excited about.  I can say that I didn’t really tell them…they guessed, after much prodding, begging and questioning. They figured it out…checkout this video….do you think they were excited?  (Well, except for the 15 year old…she’s too cool to jump around!)

The day of the play was long, a 4 hour drive with traffic, but once we arrived, we had the greatest time!  Sometimes you get to splurge and spoil your kids.  This was SO worth it.  Making memories with my kids is priceless….if you are reading this, what memories have you created this summer?
